The City of St. Johns Recreation Department is hosting a Lifeguard Training Certification Course.
Prerequisites for the class: Minimum age: 15 years old; Students must pass a pre-course swimming skills test prior to taking lifeguarding courses. This includes a 300-yard swim using front crawl or breaststroke, a 2-minute tread using legs only and the ability to retrieve a 10-lb dive weight from 7 ft deep, surface and swim 20 yards with the weight, using legs only and exit the pool without using a ladder within 100 seconds. The class will be a blended learning class where some online study will need to be done in advance of the class in addition to the class sessions at the pool. Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course will receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED. Certificates are valid for 2 years. Cost is $200, $154 payable to the City of St Johns and $46 payable to the instructor, Becky Kay.
